Owen Giesbrecht

Owen Giesbrecht is a dedicated and passionate individual whose commitment to excellence spans academics, athletics, and community involvement. His journey in volleyball began in grade seven at École Selkirk Junior High and progressed to playing competitively for the Lord Selkirk Royals and Jr. Bisons. Owen’s skill and leadership have earned him multiple opportunities to represent Manitoba at prestigious events, including the North American Indigenous Games, where he captained his team to a gold medal, and the Canada Cup.
Owen’s dedication to volleyball is matched by his academic achievements. He has consistently maintained Honour Roll status with an average above 85% throughout high school. He demonstrates a tireless work ethic, evident in his ability to balance rigorous training schedules with academic responsibilities. Owen’s academic interests lie in engineering, where he plans to study mechanical or civil engineering, using his strengths in math and physics to solve real-world problems.
As a student-athlete, Owen has also contributed significantly to his community. He has volunteered as a volleyball coach, participated in school and club sports. His coaches and teachers describe him as a team player with exceptional leadership qualities. As captain of his varsity volleyball team, Owen led by example, excelling in kills, passing, and serving, while fostering camaraderie among his teammates. His dedication and respect for others have made him a valued member of every team he has joined.
Beyond athletics, Owen’s perseverance and positive attitude have left a lasting impression on those around him. His pre-calculus teacher and coach noted his determination to overcome challenges and his commitment to growth, both on and off the court.
