Julia Martens

Julia Martens is an exceptional student-athlete and scholar whose passion for volleyball has shaped her personal and academic journey. A multi-sport athlete, Julia ultimately found her calling in volleyball, where she has achieved numerous accolades, including Volleyball Manitoba Player of the Year in 2022 and 2024 and recognition as a 17U All-Canadian in 2024. As the captain of the Westgate Wings, she led her team to an undefeated season, culminating in a AAA Provincial Championship and earning the AAA Provincial MVP title. Over her high school career, Julia consistently demonstrated perseverance, leadership, and teamwork, earning multiple All-Star Awards at provincial championships.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Julia is a remarkable student, maintaining a 99% academic average this year while excelling in a rigorous curriculum. She plans to pursue a science degree at the University of Manitoba, with aspirations of attending medical school and making a meaningful impact in the field of medicine.
Julia is also deeply committed to her community. She has volunteered extensively, including supporting Harvest Manitoba, Salvation Army, and Westgate’s breakfast program. At her school, she is an active member of the student council and participates in initiatives such as Christmas hamper deliveries and tutoring fellow students. Additionally, she has guest-coached younger volleyball players, aiming to inspire in them the same passion for the sport that has driven her.
The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association and Volleyball Manitoba work in co-operation to support the academic and athletic endeavors of Manitoba’s high school student athletes.
