Andre began his track and field career at River East Collegiate in 1978, quickly excelling in sprints and relays. By Grade 12, he was undefeated in the 100m and 200m at the Provincial High School Track & Field Championships. He went on to represent Manitoba in national competitions, winning multiple medals, and later had a successful university career at the University of Manitoba, setting records that still stand today. After university, Andre competed internationally as a member of Canada’s National Track and Field Team, participating in major events like the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He was a three-time national 400m champion, a Commonwealth bronze medalist, and a Canadian record holder. Following his athletic career, Andre contributed to the sport through coaching, serving on Athletics Manitoba’s Board of Directors, and helping organize the Harry Jerome International Track Classic.
