Jeff Small

Jeff has been a dedicated leader with a coaching career that began in 1984. Over the years, he has coached volleyball, basketball, and badminton, achieving notable success, including a Zone 6 Boys Volleyball Championship and a Zone 6 Badminton Championship. His teams have earned multiple provincial medals, including three bronze and one silver at the varsity boys’ volleyball level. Recognized for his outstanding coaching, Jeff was named Volleyball Manitoba’s Coach of the Year and Central Region Coach of the Year in 1999-2000 and has been selected as a Zone 6 All-Star coach on numerous occasions. Beyond coaching, Jeff has made significant contributions to sports administration, serving on the Zone 6 Board for over 20 years, including five years as president. His leadership has played a crucial role in shaping the professionalism and reputation of Zone 6 athletics. He has also convened multiple provincial championships at Treherne Collegiate in both basketball and volleyball, further demonstrating his commitment to the development of student-athletes. Jeff’s influence extends to the provincial level, having served on the MHSAA Board of Directors for two consecutive terms, for a total of eight years, where he contributed to key committee decisions. His dedication was recognized with the MHSAA Certificate of Recognition in 2005-2006 and, the prestigious Frank L. McKinnon Award in June 2011 for his leadership in school sport and the Nick Laping award in June 2019. His legacy as a coach, administrator, and advocate for student-athletes continues to leave a lasting impact on Manitoba’s sports community.
