Over the course of his remarkable 34-year career (and counting) as a physical education teacher, Russ Harder has exemplified the true spirit of high school athletics. He has been an outstanding coach, leader, mentor, and role model for students and colleagues alike.

From his very first year in education, Russ has been a fixture on the sidelines and in the gym, coaching different ages in different sports where needed. His passion for sport and commitment to student athletes is unwavering. He has achieved remarkable success as a volleyball and soccer coach, with countless appearances in provincial finals and championship wins. For Russ, it has never been just about the wins. Russ coaches with heart, integrity, and with a full understanding of what high school sport is.

Russ’s impact extends beyond his coaching ability. He has been an essential contributor to the SCAC Zone Council, serving in a variety of leadership roles over the years and is currently presiding as President. His tireless work behind the scenes ensures opportunities for all student athletes in the Zone, and his steady, fair-minded leadership has earned the respect of colleagues across the province.

What truly sets Russ apart, however, is the way students respond to him. They love being taught by him, coached by him, and simply being around him. He brings the best out of people, fostering environments where young people grow not just as athletes, but as people.
